Zapture - capture the desktop in various ways
There are times when you may need to capture the desktop and save it as an image file. Maybe for showing an error to the developer of a program or for storing a certain piece of information that you may need to recall later on. No matter what the reasons are for capturing the desktop, doing so using the Windows capturing utility is a very difficult process. That's because the captured desktop must first be copied to the clipboard and then pasted into Paint, the Windows default image editor. Even after that the image can be saved as an actual file. Not to mention the fact that Windows cannot copy only a certain portion of the screen or an active window.
Fortunately, there is a Windows application which allows capturing the desktop or certain portions of it and saving it as an image file, all this without the user's intervention. That program is called Zapture. This is basically a replacement for the Windows capturing utility. After it's installed using its simple installer, Zapture will place an icon into the system tray, from where the user can access all its features. The capturing process can be initiated using the right click menu or by using a certain key combination, which can be configured from the program's options section.
The desktop can be captured in different ways, either completely, a section or an active window. After the capturing process is over, the result can be copied to the clipboard or can be saved as an image file automatically. For making it easier to capture the desktop, Zapture includes some extra tools, like an on-screen ruler or a magnifier, for more precise captures of the desktop.
Pros:
It allows capturing the desktop using a single click or by using a configurable key combination, all accessible from the system tray. Besides that, captured images can be copied to the clipboard or can be saved as an image file, automatically. What's more, the program can capture the whole desktop, certain portions of it or active windows. Furthermore, there are a few extra tools available, like an on-screen ruler or a magnifier, for more precise captures.
Cons:
The program does not include an actual interface and that's why it may be difficult to initiate a capture using the system tray right-click menu.
Zapture is a complete capturing utility which lets you take shots of the desktop using a single click or a key combination, in more ways than one.
